I’m way too hard on myself when I make mistakes. Or at least I use to be. Mistakes are a natural part of life I feel. To be free from making errors would be to live a life without any risk at all, and to me, that’s not living!
This quote says it perfectly to me: Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep. Scott Adams
Still, to make the same mistakes, again and again, is a waste of a life too. It almost feels when I make repeated mistakes that some aspect of myself is blind to the reality of the situation.
Awareness is everything, and each of us has the power within us in to evoke positive change
So how to learn from mistakes?
I find that every yoga class I do has the potential to change the world. When I change myself, I change the world, and I can do that by injecting a theme into each class and then let it spill out in to my day.
Next time you are doing a yoga class try adding some yoga tools by being aware of the following as you do the class. ( please note I feel it is best just to ask yourself one of these questions per class)
1.Challenges during the yoga practice can be viewed several ways, is the pose a challenge or have you hooked on to the outcome?
2.Are you telling yourself before you have even tried the pose that you are going to fail?
3.Are you listening in life, or following old negative patterns?
4. Do you trust yourself to make good decisions?
5.Are you habitually making the same mistakes with your breathing habits?
6.Could the attitude of innocence and to approach the pose with a fresh start, new eyes and an open heart be a good option? If so where can you do this on and off the yoga mat?
7.What bad habits are doing every time you go into the pose?
8. Are you enjoying the class or rushing through to the end?
9.What mistakes do you habitually make, and what is the lesson in this?
10. How can you learn from your yoga and take it out into the world?
The yoga mat is a safe place to cultivate change and then bring it out into the world.
Just by changing our mindset we can help to cultivate change.
Let me know how you get on. I love to hear from you!
