The little things in life have helped me through the most difficult of times. Humble moments to me have felt like big cuddles during periods of strife and pain. In a world where it feels there is so much going wrong in life, it can feel challenging to see all the good.
Yet, seeing our blessings is what I feel one should do
Problems and dislikes are never going to disappear, yet the key to life I feel is to shine a light on our likes and our gains. The little things can make a big difference if only we would notice and enjoy them.
So without further ado. Here are my top ways to use the little things in life to bring peace.
- Taste every meal. I mean savour every mouthful. Yep, life can be a rush, but by eating slowly, our health is better. So be it a sandwich or a four-course meal, enjoy a healthy dinner with consciousness. Sit and eat so that you taste every mouthful, feeling the texture, sniffing the smell, seeing the colours and taste so that you have total awareness of the present moment. Take your time. - Feel grateful for the little things in your day. Don’t be so focused on what you don’t have in your life right now that you forget to see the joy of what you already have. Joy is showing gratitude for the present moment by actually being there. So put down the smartphone, take off the headphones and make sure you diary some time to be in the present. I say find joy in your day even when it is raining. If you have a had a horrible day, before going to bed, try and think of at least one thing that you are grateful for. It may be small, but there is always joy if we seek it out.

- Stop comparing yourself to other people. The grass may always seem greener. Even if you see lots of fancy pictures on social media sites of friends with perceived perfect lives, know this, every one of us is on a journey, and we all have highs and lows. Let go of wanting to be like someone else and focus on being yourself. The best gift you can give to the world is to be the authentic you and to replace jealousy with self-love, and frustration with hope.
